Farfetch, the online platform to shop the world’s greatest selection of luxury, hosted a dinner alongside Sherri McMullen of Oakland-based boutique McMullen, stylist Mary Gonsalves Kinney and B&N’s Director of Social Media Sarah Somberg to celebrate Maki Oh, the eponymous collection from Nigerian designer Amaka Osakwe whose childhood nickname was Maki Oh. This is Maki’s first foray into the US and the collection will be sold exclusively at McMullen and online at Farfetch.

Sherri McMullen is the girl behind the brand. She is a native of Oklahoma and started her buying career at Neiman Marcus where she learned the philosophy that “service is everything.” After many years of working in retail, Sherri’s love for fashion led her to her dream of launching her first boutique, McMullen. Sherri opened her first store on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, CA in 2007. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Sherri’s discerning eye and refined sensibility evidences itself in every garment that she hand selects for the stores. Sherri focuses on supporting emerging designers across the globe. She also remains dedicated to giving back to the community, offering internships to students interested in fashion and retail and donating a percentage of proceeds to local charities. McMullen has been featured in Vogue, WWD, Elle, Instyle, Forbes, Travel and Leisure and was recently called the International Up and Comer by WWD.
